Our 34-month-old had her first dental visit last week. She was a superstar, exercising considerable patience and cooperation while the hygienist counted and polished her 20 teeth. She also had a ball spitting into "Mr. Thirsty" (the saliva ejector) and filling/refilling her rinse cup with water. The best part? Certified cavity-free! Well that was the best part for Mom, at least. S would probably argue it was actually the plastic suction cup lizard thingy she selected from the toy chest on our way out!
Here are a few highlights from our visit. :)
Waiting to get called in
Whoa - cool chair!
Playing around with "Mr. Thirsty"
Scrub-a-roo on those pearly whites!
At what age did you take your child(ren) to the dentist for the first time? How did it go?
Oh wow! Good for her! My boys actually had childhood caries and needed dental surgery so aside from the quick preliminary appointment to confirm that, their first appointment was done while asleep and required an excessive amount of work. They head back for their checkup in February and you can bet I'm crossing my fingers they'll be cavity free after that!
ReplyDeleteOuch - here's hoping for smooth sailing at their next checkup!
DeleteWhat a cute little patient! Glad the first visit went so well!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't gone yet, but these pics are super cute! What a great idea to document it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like she did a great job! The treasure chest at the end of the visit is always my guy's favourite part. I think he was 3 when we brought him for his first dental visit. So long ago now!
ReplyDeleteNo dentist visit is complete without some bounty, huh? :)
DeleteShe is adorable. I have taken my kids with me from the time they were babies and so it was really normal for them to go. My girls each had appointments at 3.
ReplyDeleteGood idea - get them used to the overall feel & experience of the place from a very young age!
DeleteI haven't taken my boys yet. I guess I should make an appointment for my oldest who just turned 3. His teeth look perfect so I have been putting it off. I doubt he would sit so still as your little one.
ReplyDeleteIf they look fine he's probably cavity-free, but good idea to check and be sure! And they can start as slow as you need them to. I know with some little kids the first appointment consists of just sitting on the chair as it goes up & down and a quick tooth count / cavity check. I was impressed myself that my daughter made it all the way to the polishing part!
DeleteWhat a trooper! I think my kids were good but not that good. Well done mom, you taught her well.
ReplyDeleteThanks! She tends to be very cooperative when other people are "in charge". Still working on things with mom & dad. ;)
DeleteMy son is 18 months and I plan on getting him in pretty soon here.
ReplyDeleteOur little one is three and hasn't gone yet but soon! Grandma is her hygienist so I'm hoping for the best!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that's pretty cool! Your little one will certainly have the all star treatment when she goes in, won't she? :)
