Stepping down the aperture (from f/5.6 to f/11):
A "storytelling" composition (low aperture - f/16):
Hubs enjoying the soft evening sunlight (high aperture - f/5):
Natural lighting conditions - too much, too little and just (about) right!
30-second application of a levels adjustment layer in Photoshop - what a difference!
Have you ever attended a photography class/workshop? How would you rate your own photography and/or editing skills?
oh this would be so fun, I've taken a class but it was in a classroom, I am more hands on so this type of a class that you took would be better for me
ReplyDeleteYup it was great to have both a hands on AND class portion for this particular workshop!
DeleteLooks like you are learning a lot! It's awesome that they now make DSLRs that are more accessible (affordable). It wasn't that long ago that unless you were making an income from photography they were just too pricey for most people to justify.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Our instructor even said that the cameras on the latest iPhones are quite powerful & versatile!
DeleteWOW... that food shot makes all the difference in the world. I need to take one to be better at that!
ReplyDeleteTotally, doesn't it?
DeleteLove it! I work for a PhotoShop instructor on the side and I've learned SO much! It's amazing the difference proper editing can make!
ReplyDeleteI mentioned to our instructor that it appears you can get 70-80% of the way to a great photo through simple PS editing (i.e. what you can learn within a 2 hr long class. :) From there, holy crap - I can imagine it would take months to learn all the in-depth capabilities and nuances of the program!
Deletewow! interesting! i soooooo need to take a class!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! Definitely worth it. :)
DeleteI would love/and need to take a photography class, fun to take with your husband!
ReplyDeleteYup, he was a good sport. ;)
DeleteYeah I wish I had a good enough camera to be able to take a photography class. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteFor this particular class, all cameras were welcome (including point & shoot and iphone cameras!)! Our instructor went around and showed each person how to understand and work with the various settings. He used to work at a camera store so was very familiar with different makes/models. Plus the Photoshop part of the class was based mainly on a set of provided photos as well. So you might be able to find a local one that's similar!
DeleteOh I'd love to attend something like that! There's so much about my camera I need to learn and it makes all the difference in the photos too :)
ReplyDeleteEven though auto mode generally works very well, it's super-helpful to develop a better understanding of what's actually going on "behind the scenes"!
DeleteLooks like you learned a lot. Photography s one area I could se some help in, I just point and shoot and hope for the best
ReplyDeleteAuto mode generally works really well, though like mentioned to Brandi above, it's great to understand what's actually going on and how to control the different aspects more directly!
DeleteONLY WISH!! I did LOTS of hands on and LOVE every bit of it!1
ReplyDeleteWonder how your doing, maybe we'll meet the new baby soon?!!
Nice to hear from you, Kim! Everything's going very well for us and yes, little man is due on Sunday!! Looks like your Etsy shop is still going strong? I loooove all the patterns and colours you're currently offering - so lovely!
