(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Introductory Photography Workshop #WW

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I attended an introductory photography workshop through Macro Class consisting of a landscape photo walk (during which we were required to shoot in manual mode) and an Adobe Photoshop basics class. Here are a few tidbits from the sessions!

Stepping down the aperture (from f/5.6 to f/11):

 A "storytelling" composition (low aperture - f/16):

Hubs enjoying the soft evening sunlight (high aperture - f/5):

Natural lighting conditions - too much, too little and just (about) right!

30-second application of a levels adjustment layer in Photoshop - what a difference!

Have you ever attended a photography class/workshop? How would you rate your own photography and/or editing skills?

  1. oh this would be so fun, I've taken a class but it was in a classroom, I am more hands on so this type of a class that you took would be better for me

    1. Yup it was great to have both a hands on AND class portion for this particular workshop!

  2. Looks like you are learning a lot! It's awesome that they now make DSLRs that are more accessible (affordable). It wasn't that long ago that unless you were making an income from photography they were just too pricey for most people to justify.

    1. I mentioned to our instructor that it appears you can get 70-80% of the way to a great photo through simple PS editing (i.e. what you can learn within a 2 hr long class. :) From there, holy crap - I can imagine it would take months to learn all the in-depth capabilities and nuances of the program!

    1. For this particular class, all cameras were welcome (including point & shoot and iphone cameras!)! Our instructor went around and showed each person how to understand and work with the various settings. He used to work at a camera store so was very familiar with different makes/models. Plus the Photoshop part of the class was based mainly on a set of provided photos as well. So you might be able to find a local one that's similar!

    1. Even though auto mode generally works very well, it's super-helpful to develop a better understanding of what's actually going on "behind the scenes"!

    1. Auto mode generally works really well, though like mentioned to Brandi above, it's great to understand what's actually going on and how to control the different aspects more directly!
